Canal de Berry and the 'Berrichon'
"In1839, when the canal de Berry was eventually connected to the canal network the navigators met other boatmen and their boats from other regions. They modofied their 'bés de Cane' (duck nest ?) boats being inspired by the 'flûte bourguignonne' (bourgogne bottle shape ) to give rise to the flûte berrichonne or 'berrichon', which was larger than the 'bés de cane' with a length of 24 - 27.5 m and a width of 2.3 -2.6 m."
